Barry McCarthy, Ph.D. is a board certified clinical psychologist , a diplomate in sex therapy, a certified couple therapist, and professor emeritus of psychology at American University. Barry practiced sex therapy as well as couple and individual therapy in Washington, DC for 42 years. He has presented over 450 workshops and speeches nationally and internationally on a range of sexual and relational topics. He has published more than 120 professional papers, 33 book chapters, and authored 23 books. In 2016, Barry received the Masters and Johnson award for lifetime contributions to the sexuality field. At this point in his career he focuses on presenting workshops and speeches to professional audiences and writing books on sexuality issues for the public.
